History of Company’s Establishment
Tehran Water Company was established on October 27, 1955 and after 9 years of study and different attempts to provide water, purification, treatment and distribution, the Company officially started its activities. In 1964, the Act of Establishing the Ministry of Water and Power was passed by the Parliament and in this way, the entire authorizations and duties of the Ministry of the Interior and Tehran municipality at Tehran Regional Water Organization were assigned to the Ministry of Water and Power. Based on the resolution passed by the Cabinet, Karaj Dam Organization merged with Tehran Water Organization to form a new unit named Tehran Regional Water Organization. The duty of supplying water for the Central Zone of Iran, consisting the five provinces: Tehran, Central (Markazi), Semnan, Qom and Qazvin, as well as the development and utilization of all existing installations, development of dams, implementation of sewage and sewer system plants, developing installations on the floating rivers in water intake basin levels, extraction from underground waters, execution of civil development plans for improving water resources, managing the installations and utilizing them in that zone were assigned to Tehran Regional Water Organization. Subsequently in 1969, Tehran Regional Water Organization was registered as a joint stock company -a legal entity- with financial independence. In 1990 by passing the Law on Establishing Water and Sewage Companies, the duty of establishment and utilization installations for urban water distribution, collection, purification, treatment and transfer of sewage of cities were taken from Regional Water Organization and were assigned to Tehran Province Water and Sewage Company. Since 2005, this Company has been working in the territory of Tehran Province by passing the Islamic Legislative Assembly in alignment with decentralization and formation of provincial water companies.
